Crystal Quartz – Choosing, Cleansing & Calibrating in 3 Easy Steps
It is not always so obvious how to choose Crystal Quartz and cleansing them is of the utmost importance if you want to gain the maximum out of each and every stone.
Every stone has specific energy properties that can help, guide or deter energy streams in our body and our auric fields.
So you need to be able to connect to its vibrations, and recognize them, whether they are positive or negative to your being. .

Choosing Your Crystal
When you are looking to buy any quartz stone, you need to let it ‘talk’ to you. You need to let it ‘call’ to you.
What does that mean? Simply, not look with your ‘brain’ but look with your heart. Your instinct. Your inner voice.
Usually, when looking at a collection of crystal quartz in a store, look at what ‘catches’ your eye first.
Test it, look at some other crystal quartz, then return to that one that ‘caught’ your eye. You may feel a little tingling sensation in your eye or somewhere else in your body.
That tingling sensation is the energy of the stone resonating with your aura, your electromagnetic field.
That is your stone!
Pick it up (if its not a quartz cave of course) and hold it in the palm of your left hand for women and the right hand for men. Try to discern any sensation in your palm and/or along your arm.
This will give your more confirmation whether this stone resonates with you or not.
Usually, the most common sensations are tingling, slight heat, and some gentle electrical currents up your arm.
Cleansing Your Crystals
Many techniques have been reported and written about cleansing your crystal quartz.
Personally, the techniques that I have used to cleanse all of my crystals throughout the years are simple and effective to all levels.
You may clean all of your crystal quartz together in the same bowl. Take either tap water and add a teaspoon full of sea salt.
If you are lucky to live near the ocean, then ocean water would be great!
Soak the stones for a full 24 hours. You can go overtime, but never go under-time!
After the soaking, only you are to handle the stones. Take them out of the salted water, and dry them gently.
Then place in a safe and sunny place in your house, where the stones can be exposed to the sunlight – even on a cloudy day – for a minimum of 2 hours.
Do not leave the stones for more than 4 hours in direct sunlight. Between 2 to 4 hours is the optimal time to charge the stones. Any longer than 4 hours will actually reverse the charging process, and in fact, it will deplete it from energy.
Another aspect of cleansing that can be done after the salt water cleansing process is once a month to leave the stones exposed to the full moon light, again for 1 to 2 hours is plenty.
Calibrating Your Crystal Quartz
After having cleansed your crystal quartz, you should not let others touch your personal stones.
They are to be calibrated by you with your auric field.
The way to calibrate your quartz crystal is:
- take one crystal at a time in your left hand for a woman, this is your positive hand. And the right hand for a man.
- While taking a deep breath imagine your energy flowing from your abdomen through your arm into your hand.
- Repeat this breathing process slowly, to make sure you do not hyperventilate and get too much oxygen to the brain.
- While doing this breathing exercise, declare out loud to each crystal a personal affirmation and ‘request’ to connect with that particular stone.
For Example: “This ‘Crystal’ (name the stone, be it Amethyst, Carnelian, Agate, Rose Quartz etc.) connects to me, my body, my auric field, and its properties permeate and connect throughout in a perfect and harmonious way“
You may compose any wording that you like, so long as it is truly felt in your being that what you are saying you mean it. - Once done, place the crystal in a place where others will not be tempted to reach out and touch it. Many people do not understand the importance of keeping crystal stones clear of other auric fields.
The process of calibrating your crystal quartz is usually done once when the crystal has just been received or purchased.
Afterward, it is a matter of general maintenance, of cleansing them with salt water and sun and/or moonlight recharge, once a month.
You may want to calibrate your crystals every six months or once a year if you feel that they need it anew. It is up to you and your connection.

Whenever you acquire new crystal quartz be sure to go through these 3 steps in order to get the most out of your quartz.
All crystals absorb energy from their surrounding, that is why cleansing them on a regular basis is essential.
TIP: If you have in your possession a crystal tree or a good-sized crystal geode, you may want to place it on or near your microwave oven. It absorbs all the microwave’s radiation. Be sure to clean this particular crystal every week!
